About

Welcome to my on-line sketchbook

I’m mando manderin, AKA Mandy Tolley.

I’ve been working as a textile artist since finishing my degree in Embroidery at Manchester Metroplitan University in 2002.

After Uni I spent the following two years on the Arts Council’s ‘Setting Up Scheme’, learning a few more tricks of the trade – studying Pattern Cutting and Printmaking at City College, Manchester.

This is where I was introduced to Hot Bed Press, a members based open-access print studio in Salford. Here I learnt many other methods of printmaking and fell in love with screen print. Who wouldn’t? Now I regularly teach screen printing weekend workshops and evening classes there.

I also learnt a lot from Jackie Haynes; owner of the Northern Quarters finest Fancy Dress Shop ‘House of Haynes’. Working there for several years taught me all about the construction of garments – making human sized carrots, ice cream cones and many other crazy costumes!

Enough about me, now a few sentences about my blog.

This is my on-line sketchbook, here you’ll be seeing all the things I see. The things I find inspiring, things I’m creating, things others have created. You’ll also be able to see when there are long gaps between posts just how lazy I’ve been…if you’re still interested then come and have a look…

  1. Hi.. just considering signing up for the photo/screenprinting workshop at Hot Bed that you’re doing and wondering if you can lead me in the right direction image wise of what’s possible to achieve with that kind of technique before I sign up. I’ll probably miss out through dithering anyway as I see there’s only 7 places. Only done basic printing in the past during my time in Fine Art at MMU so I’m a complete novice really. Love your blog and video by the way! 😉 Hope to hear from you soon
